Volkswagen T-Roc Sold Out in India: Report

Volkswagen T-Roc's 80 percent of the first batch booked; company likely to import more units into the country

Volkswagen launched its new compact SUV, T-Roc in March 2020 in the Indian market at a price of Rs 19.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the company launched this SUV via the digital platform. Showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, the premium midsize SUV was introduced in only a petrol trim with a BS6 compliant engine. The SUV is sold by the Volkswagen India dealers as a full import.

Out of 2500 units being imported, the company allocated 1000 to T-Roc. According to couple of media reports, within 40 days, 80 percent of these 1000 units have already been booked. As for the second batch, Volkswagen is considering to homologate and import more units. According to the Indian import rule, the companies can now import 2500 vehicles via the CKD and CBU channels per year, without the need for homologation. However, every vehicle that is imported into the country will have to meet the International Automotive Standards.

Built on the versatile MQB platform, the 2020 Volkswagen T-Roc flaunts a progressive design language with a coupe-style dual-tone roof and a distinctively wide front end. The twin-slat grille is flanked by LED headlamps with DRLs. The dual-tone roofline gives it a sporty look and matches perfectly with electric body colour. It gets 5-spoke silver alloy wheels with black plastic cladding around the wheel arches. The rear end features wrapped around taillights with a dual-tone bumper.


Its cabin boasts of Vienna leather seats thus giving it a premium feel. Other highlighted features include an automatic climate control system, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system integrated with Apple Car Play and Andriod Auto, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, reverse parking camera, and keyless entry/start.


Under the skin, the Volkswagen T-Roc is powered by a 1.5-litre TSI Evo Turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine churning out 148 bhp of power output and 250 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission as a standard with no 4Motion AWD system.

The compact SUV is available in a total of six color options namely Curcuma Yellow, Pure White, Energetic Orange, Ravenna Blue, and Indium Grey. Out of these, five shades get a dual-tone treatment along with a blacked-out roof. The Deep Black Pearl color is a single body-color option.
