The sixth-gen Polo is larger than the outgoing car, it gets four petrol engines and one diesel.

The new hatchback is based on the company’s MQB A0 platform and it has grown in size. There’s an 81mm increase in length, 63mm in width, 7mm in height and 9mm in the wheelbase. It has a larger boot by 71 litres as well.

The new hatchback is visually similar to the earlier Polo. Internationally, it will be sold in six different trims  – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trims, a special Beats edition with an upgraded sound system, and an R-line trim featuring re-profiled bumpers, standard 16-inch alloy wheels and darkened exterior elements.

A top-spec GTI variant, which differentiates itself with uniquely styled bumpers, a honeycomb grille insert, red highlights within the headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler atop the tailgate, LED tail lamps and dual-chromed tailpipes, will also be on offer.

There is more space inside, and it features a new dashboard with a new steering wheel and more contemporary switchgear. The Polo will be offered in international markets, with a choice of four petrol engines and a sole diesel. The cars will feature a stop/start function and brake energy recuperation for better fuel efficiency.

There is no confirmation on whether this car will come here, but Skoda is currently developing a low-cost ‘Eco’ platform that is based on the company’s MQB platform for markets like ours.
