Volkswagen has finally taken the wraps off the 2021 Polo facelift. The German automaker had released a teaser image of the hatchback a few days ago. The new Polo comes with minor exterior and interior tweaks. However, no changes have been made on the mechanical front. talking about the India launch, it might take place next year.
In terms of dimensions, the new Polo facelift stands at 4,053 mm in length, 1,751 mm in width, and 1,446 mm in height. While the wheelbase is 2,564 mm. Moving on to the design, the Polo facelift comes with subtle changes. The front fascia features a revised grille. In addition, it gets bi-LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and an illuminated strip that is inspired by its bigger sibling- Golf. The illuminated strip flows through the headlamp and runs along the radiator grille. The hatchback further gets C-shaped fog lamp housing on both sides with horizontally positioned fog lamps and new central air intakes. The rear end boasts of square-shaped LED tail-lights with a three-dimensional effect and a redesigned bumper.
The cabin of the 2021 Polo facelift has also received a decent upgrade. It features a new 8-inch digital cockpit that comes as standard. However, the top-end trim gets a bigger 10.25-inch screen. The infotainment system has also been upgraded. There is a 6.5-inch touchscreen that comes as standard, while a 9.2-inch version is also available as an option. Apart from being compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it also offers We Connect and We Connect Plus services. Furthermore, the hatchback features a multi-functional steering wheel similar to the one present in Volkswagen Golf. In terms of safety features, the hatchback gets a semi-autonomous driving IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist system that comprises lane-keeping assistant, fatigue detection system, a frontal monitoring system for emergency braking in the city, and parking assistant.
Performance-wise, it gets the same engine option as its predecessor. The base variant will get a 1.0-litre three-cylinder MPI naturally aspirated petrol unit that generates 77 bhp power. There is also a 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol unit on sale. The mid-spec 1.0-litre TSI develops 94 bhp power, while the range-topping TSI produces 108 bhp. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or a DCT gearbox.
The 2021 Volkswagen Polo facelift will be offered in four color options - Ascot Gray, Kings Red, Vibrant Violet, and Rauchgrau, along with the existing paint schemes - Pure White, Reflex Silver, and Reef Blue and Deep Black.
