The company has started production from its facility in Aurangabad; to be powered by 2.0-litre diesel engine.

Volkswagen has confirmed that its luxury sedan, the Passat will launch in India on October 10, 2017. The German carmaker has begun production of its new Passat at its Aurangabad facility. The upcoming eighth-generation Passat luxury sedan is based on the company’s MQB platform and will mark the model’s relaunch after the previous-gen was discontinued in 2014.

Powering the Passat is the versatile MQB platform that also underpins a variety of models such as the VW Tiguan, the Skoda Octavia, Kodiaq and Superb. Thanks to this new platform, the Passat will come with a longer wheelbase, which should translate to more room on the inside. The new model is also slightly wider than the previous-generation car. Under the hood is Volkswagen's 177hp, 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine paired with a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

With an expected price tag of ₹30 lakh, the Volkswagen Passat will take on the Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry.
