TVS Motors Company has been updating its product lineup in India over the past few months. Most of the models have been updated to comply with the latest BS6 emission norms. But the 110cc Wego scooter will not be a part of the company’s BS6 line-up in the country. It has officially been discontinued. Most models have already made the cut, but the original timelines for launch of some products may be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Recently, the Automobile industry is going through a slowdown due to the Coronavirus outbreak in India. The deadly virus has led to the shutdown of all operations and businesses.
The Wego was first launched in the year 2010 in the Indian market. The scooter was quite a popular model for the brand. The 110cc scooter was a premium offering during the first half of its life-cycle. However, the introduction of Jupiter and the Ntorq overshadowed the Wego, leading to the slowdown in the sale of the scooter. TVS has already updated the Jupiter and Ntorq to meet the stricter emission standards.
TVS Wego was powered by a 110cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produced 8 bhp power and 8 Nm torque. The engine was mated to a V-Matic transmission. The scooter came with large 12-inch wheels at the front and the rear respectively. Suspension duties were taken care of by the telescopic forks up front and spring-loaded hydraulic dampers towards the rear. Braking was handled by 130mm drum brakes at either end.
TVS updated the Wego at the 2014 Auto Expo with a semi-digital instrument cluster and new graphics. The scooter even made it past the BS4 emission standards. It even featured a front disc option that was not available with other TVS 110 cc scooters apart from the Ntorq 125. The Wego will continue to be sold in certain export markets in its previous state of tune. However, it will be discontinued in the Indian market and will be replaced by the BS6 Scooty Zest.
