Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is launching in India on February 9, 2021. The upcoming motorcycle will become the most affordable offering from Triumph in the Indian market. The tourer was unveiled in November 2020 and listed on the official website for a long time now. The recent launch of Speed Triple 1200 RS and the new Tiger 850 Sport is an indication of Triumph’s focus on India. The British motorcycle giant sees the Indian market as an important part of its growth strategy. The Tiger 850 Sport's design and features are heavily influenced by Triumph Tiger 900, including the powertrain. The engine will be detuned to lower the cost of the motorcycle. The new Triumph Tiger 850 will compete against BMW F 750 GS in its segment. Expect the pricing to lie in the region of Rs 10 lakhs (ex-showroom), India.
Triumph Tiger 850 will come in dual-tone paint schemes namely Graphite/Diablo Red and Graphite/Caspian Blue while the fuel tank sports 850 stickers. Further, the bike comes with all LED lighting with daytime running light (DRL). It sits on a lightweight modular frame and bolt-on aluminum rear sub-frame. The bike weighs 192 kgs which is almost 7 kgs lighter than the predecessor Tiger 800 XR. Built for road-going adventure, the bike's fuel tank capacity stands at 20 litres.
The motorcycle boasts of a 5-inch TFT instrument panel. It displays information like speed, trip meter, odometer among many others. The buyers can choose from two riding modes namely Rain and Road. One can adjust ride-by-wire throttle response and traction control settings as per the mode selected. Other features include switchable traction control, ABS, 12V charging socket and many more. The new Triumph bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels.
It is powered by an 888cc liquid-cooled, 12 valve, DOHC, inline 3-cylinder engine sourced from Triumph Tiger 900. The bike delivers 84 bhp of maximum power output and 82Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. Braking duties are taken care of by Brembo Stylema brake callipers, with twin 320mm disc-setup in the front and 255mm disc towards the rear. The suspension system here comprises of non-adjustable Marzocchi upside-down forks up front and preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear.
