Triumph Speed Triple 1200 has made its global debut today. This is the first of many models to roll out from Triumph’s production line-up this year. There are new motorcycles like the all-new Trident 660 and Tiger 850 Sport which will soon be coming to the market. With the debut today, the Speed Triple 1200 RS becomes the brand’s flagship naked motorcycle model.

The new model will replace the Speed Triple 1050 RS which is discontinued as the engine was not upgraded to comply with the latest Euro 5 or BS6 emissions standards. The bike will come in two new colour schemes- Sapphire Black, with red and silver graphics, or Matt Silver Ice, with black, silver and yellow graphics. It will rival the likes of upcoming Ducati Street Fighter V4 and Kawasaki Z H2. The outgoing Speed Triple 1050 RS is priced at GBP 13,600 (about Rs 13.59 lakh) in the UK market. The new Speed Triple 1200 RS will be priced at a premium of Rs 40,000- Rs 50,000 over the 1050 model.

Talking about the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS in detail, it will differ in design from the previous Speed Triple.  It is based on a completely new chassis with a narrower and provides more dominant riding position. The signature bug-eyed headlamps are swapped for sleek looking a dual-LED headlamp set up. It will house eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs. If we observe the headlights, it is quite similar to the 2019 Street Triple R/RS. Another highlight is the new T-shaped LED tail-lamp which is markedly different from the outgoing Speed Triple 1050 RS. The bike rides on new 17-inch lightweight cast aluminium, black painted V-spoke wheels.

As for the equipment on-board, the bike boasts of an all-new 5-inch TFT instrument panel, new keyless system, cruise control among others. The motorcycle comes with Triumph connectivity feature as expected. Speed Triple buyers can access turn-by-turn navigation via the free My Triumph app, GoPro control, phone control and music operation.

The rider is able to control all of this through the switch cubes and will access all related information through the TFT screen. There is a new Optimised Cornering ABS system with advanced integrated 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). One can control it through the TFT instrument panel and left-hand switch cube. There are 5 distinct Riding Modes namely Rain, Road, Sport, Track and Rider.

The engine delivers significantly higher power and torque compared to the previous model. The new Speed Triple 1200 RS is powered by a 3-cylinder 1160cc triple engine. The bike delivers 177.5 bhp of power output @10,750 rpm and 125 Nm of peak torque @9,000 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The bike is lighter by 10 kgs with wet weight figure standing at 198 kgs. Öhlins NIX30 upside-down forks up front and Öhlins TTX36 twin tube monoshock towards the rear take care of the suspension duties. While new Brembo brakes in the front and the rear handle the braking responsibilities.
