Toyota to release a teaser video of the upcoming Urban Cruiser; Likely to be launched in September

Toyota Kirloskar Motors launched the Glanza hatchback in June 2019. Now the company is all set to roll out its second product ‘Urban Cruiser’ from its joint venture with Maruti Suzuki. Toyota Urban Cruiser is basically a rebadged Maruti Vitara Brezza. The SUV is likely to be launched in September this year. However, the bookings for it are believed to commence from August 22, 2020. It is also expected that the company will be releasing the first official teaser video of the Urban Cruiser anytime soon.

In terms of design, Toyota is likely to make subtle changes in the Urban Cruiser in order to differentiate it from the Vitara Brezza. Thus Upfront, the SUV is likely to get a bigger chrome grille along with LED headlamps. Its front and the rear bumpers will be tweaked a little. The alloy wheels design will be the same as the one present on the Vitara Brezza. While the rear end will feature tweaked taillights. The overall upright stance, pillars, and roofline of traditional SUVs found on the Vitara Brezza will indeed be retained. The cabin of the Cruiser is likely to be similar to the Vitara Brezza. However, the SUV might get light shade interiors with a dual-tone dashboard. The Maruti badges will be replaced with that off Toyota.

Under the hood, Toyota Urban Cruiser will draw power from a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol mild-hybrid engine that also powers the Vitara Brezza. This engine delivers 104 bhp of power and 138 Nm torque, as it mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with 4-speed automatic transmission as an option.

The production of the Urban Cruiser will be undertaken by Maruti Suzuki. Also, the upcoming SUV will be assembled on the same production line as the Vitara Brezza. As far as the pricing is concerned, then the SUV is likely to fall in the price bracket of Rs 7.5 lakhs - Rs 11.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be competing against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, and Tata Nexon in its segment.
