The automobile sector has been one of the major pillars of India’s economic growth. On the other hand, it has also been the biggest reason for the increase in pollution. With the rising climate change issues in the country, the Indian Government is working on switching to all-electric vehicles by 2030. This year, there have been quite a few automakers who have launched electric two-wheelers in the country. Here is the list of ‘Top 5 Electric Scooters’ launched in 2020.


Bajaj Chetak Electric




Bajaj Auto made a comeback into the Indian market with the launch of Chetak electric scooter. The company launched the scooter earlier this year in the price range of Rs 1 lakh - Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two variants namely Bajaj Chetak Urbane and Bajaj Chetak Premium. Performance-wise, Chetak electric draws its power from an IP67-rated 3kWh battery pack. The electric motor offers 5.3 bhp power and 16 Nm peak torque. The scooter offers a company claimed driving range of 95 kms. Furthermore, the two-wheeler gets two riding modes namely Eco and Sport. The battery pack takes around 5 hours of time to fully recharge.


TVS iQube 




TVS Motor Company marked its entry into the electric vehicle segment by launching its first scooter iQube in January this year. The scooter was introduced at Rs 1.15 lakhs (ex-showroom). Mechanically, it is powered by a 2.25 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that comes paired with a 4.4 kW electric motor. The battery offers a claimed driving range of 75 kms on a single charge. The top speed is rated at 78 kmph. Currently, the e-scooter is only available in Bangalore. The company plans to introduce it to other cities as well in 2021. 


Ather 450X




Ather Energy launched its second product 450X in January this year at a starting price of Rs 99,000 (ex-showroom). Earlier the scooter was available only in Bangalore and Chennai. Recently, the brand increased its footprint in the country with expansion to 16 more Indian cities. The Ather 450X has completely been upgraded in terms of performance. It gets a 2.9 Kwh lithium-ion battery pack instead of the 2.7 Kwh battery pack present in Ather 450. The battery pack comes paired with a 6-kilowatt motor. Furthermore, it offers a driving range of 116 kms on full charge along with a top speed of 80 kmph. 


Ampere Magnus Pro




Ampere Vehicles launched the Magnus Pro electric scooter at Rs 73,990 (ex-showroom) in the country this year. The scooter is currently available in Bangalore. Mechanically, it is powered by a 1.2kW BLDC Vector Sine Wave motor paired with a 60V 30Ah advanced lithium-ion battery. The battery takes 5-6 hours to charge fully. Furthermore, the top speed is rated at 55kmph while the claimed range is around 75-80 kms on a full charge. 


BGauss B8




The sub-brand of RR Global launched BGauss B8 electric scooter in July this year. The flagship product of the company was introduced at a price of Rs 62,999 (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. It is available in a total of 3 variants - lead-acid, lithium-ion, and Li technology. Performance-wise, the lead-acid variant gets an IP65 rated 60V/22.3AH fixed battery pack. This battery can be fully-charged in 7-8 hours and provides a range of up to 78kms. Talking about the lithium-ion variant, it comes with an IP67 rated 57.6V/1.45AH removable battery pack which needs 3 hours to charge up to 100 percent. It too offers a range of up to 78 kms. The Li technology variant comes loaded with an IP67 rated 57.6V/1.45kW battery pack which is a removable unit and requires 3 hours to fully charge. It further offers a range of 70kms. Furthermore, all three variants also feature a 1900W BLDC Hub Mount electric motor.
