Toyota most likely to offer Innova Crysta CNG as an entry-level trim

Japanese automaker Toyota Kirloskar Motors has been working on CNG powered Innova Crysta for quite some time now. The Toyota Innova Crysta CNG model was spied doing test runs first in January 2020. Now once again the prototype has been caught on camera undisguised. Thus a new set of images have been released online showing the prototype being tested on the road. Toyota is likely to offer Innova Crysta CNG as an entry-level trim. Also, the MPV will be targeted at fleet operators due to the fuel economy benefits.

While there are no images of the interior, the cabin design is likely to remain identical. The MPV is likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system, electronically adjustable driver’s seat, and automatic climate control among many others. The safety kit in the upcoming Innova Crysta CNG model is expected to comprise of multiple airbags, central locking, a seat belt warning alarm, rear parking sensors, and power door locks.

Under the hood, the regular trim draws power from a 2TR-FE dual VVT-i 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 165 bhp power and 245 Nm torque. However, the CNG variant is likely to see a slight fall in the power figures and is expected to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. In terms of brakes, the four-wheeler will get discs in the front and drums towards the rear. Suspension duties will be taken care by a double-wishbone with coil spring and stabilizer up front and a 4-link with coil spring and lateral road suspension at the rear.

As far as the price is concerned, the current-generation Innova Crysta falls in the price bracket of Rs 15.66 lakhs - Rs 24.67 lakhs (ex-showroom). The upcoming bi-fuel variant is likely to be Rs 80,000 - Rs 1 lakh costlier than its petrol-only sibling. Once launched, Innova Crysta will become the second seven-seater MPV to sport CNG after Maruti Ertiga.
