Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan are the words that come to our minds when we hear the word “Tamil Cinema”. Both these stalwarts of Kollywood have ruled the cinematic world with their charm, wit and acting. Both the actors are making a shift towards politics leaving space for other young actors to claim the throne of Tamil Cinema. One such actor who is now making his presence reverberate is Vijay who is given the popular moniker of "Thalapathy" (commander). He is the highest-paid actor in the industry. By 2017, he was the second highest grossing actor in the history of Tamil cinema, behind veteran Rajinikanth. Vijay has acted in over 64 movies so far and won numerous awards and acclaim for his power-packed performances. He loves cars as he has been spotted driving the mean machines several times to various events. We take a look at some of the cool cars of Vijay:
Audi A8
One of the popular luxury sedans from the German luxury automaker, Audi A8 is a popular choice among celebrities across the world. Vijay isn’t immune to the charm of Audi A8, as he added this flagship Audi sedan to his growing car collection. The A8 is sold in India as A8L, indicating its longer wheelbase form. Audi A8L is powered by a turbocharged petrol V6 engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine churns out 340hp of maximum power and 500Nm of peak torque. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is standard as is the Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi A8 L is imported in India as a CBU with a starting price of Rs 1.56 crore (ex-showroom, pan-India).
BMW X6
BMW X6 is a coupé-crossover model and it’s new iteration was launched in June 2019 in the Indian market. Globally, the new X6 comes in four variants - two xLine versions and two M Sport derivatives. It comes with two engine options – a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder (petrol & diesel) and a 4.4-litre V8 (petrol). The 2020 X6 is currently offered in India in two trims, namely xLine and M Sport. Priced upwards of Rs 1 Crore (Ex-Showroom, India). Vijay has been spotted driving the older generation X6 model.
Toyota Innova
Toyota Innova is one of the most reliable MPVs in the Indian market. Vijay uses the Innova MPV for his day-to-day activities. It is available with a BS6 compliant 2.4-litre diesel and a 2.7-litre petrol engine. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Toyota Innova Crysta BS6 base variant is priced at Rs 15.66 Lakhs while the top-end model is priced at Rs 23.63 Lakhs.
Rolls Royce Ghost
Rolls Royce is a mean machine, costing almost £283,100 (Around Rs 2.70 Crores). Very few South Indian actors have this exquisite machine in their collection and Vijay is one of them. Rolls Royce Ghost is powered by a 6.6L twin-turbo V12 engine churning out 570bhp and 780Nm on offer.
BMW X5
The second BMW car in Vijay collection, the X5, is the first German luxury SUV that Vijay added to his majestic range of vehicles. The Thuppaki star owns the second-generation version of BMW X5. The second-generation X5 is powered by a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The older BMW X5 comes with an all-wheel drive layout.
Vijay can’t stop buying BMW cars I guess considering he also owns the Mini Cooper S, which is a part of BMW Group. Amitabh Bacchan and Mammootty too love the classic sportier car from the German automaker. The Cooper S uses a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine delivering 184bhp of maximum power and 240Nm of peak torque.
