The all-new hatchback (Codename: X451) will be introduced sometime in 2019 and will be the first in a slew of models built on the brand’s flexible Advanced Modular Platform (AMP).
The new AMP platform uses 15 individual sections that can be assembled to form a complete car. The modules are flexible in size and can be scaled for length, width, track and wheelbase.
The AMP platform, according to the company, will allow as much as 80 percent part sharing, which will also work towards ensuring the upcoming cars are priced competitively. The company plans to introduce a slew of AMP-based vehicles in the near future - there is talk of a new City-rivalling sedan, an MPV and an SUV.
Initially, this platform was supposed to be shared with the VW Group, but the carmaker recently announced that its alliance had been called off since both sides didn’t see any significant benefits to the alliance.
