This Maruti Vitara Brezza rival will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a new 1,5-litre diesel.

At the Geneva Motor Show this week, Tata Motors unveiled its Nexon compact SUV. The SUV was showcased alongside other cars such as the Tigor compact sedan and the Racemo sportcar (from sub-brand Tamo), at the carmaker’s pavilion.

The near-production ready Nexon isn’t a huge departure from the concept the company showed earlier at the 2016 Auto Expo. This ‘Geneva Edition’ has LED taillights and a contrasting colour tone. The alloy wheels lend it that much-deserved sporty look. The dashboard is stylish and there are lots of premium bits in the interior. Storage won’t be an issue – the car comes with bottle and cup holders, handbag hangers, along with laptop and iPad trays.

An infotainment system, much like the one in the Tigor, is featured. There is a dash-top-mounted 6.5-inch touchscreen unit, which includes features such as voice recognition. Other features include automatic climate control with rear AC vents to improve rear passenger comfort.

The car comes fitted with front dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX mounts at the rear and a rearview camera. The company claims this car complies with all safety rules in India. Though the SUV showcased at Geneva comes equipped with a four-cylinder 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Indian version is likely to offer a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine.

Tata hopes to shake things up in the highly competitive compact SUV market in India with its Nexon.
