Tata Motors recently unveiled the iconic Safari in the country. The new SUV is the three-row derivative of the Tata Harrier that is currently on sale in India. Both the SUVs are based on the same OMEGARC platform. However, the all-new Safari gets subtle exterior and interior changes. Both the SUVs share the same 2.0-litre Kryotec Diesel engine that delivers a maximum power output of 170 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque while being linked to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Tata Safari and Tata Harrier: Exterior Design
In terms of design, Tata Safari is quite similar to Harrier. However, it does get minor changes. Instead of the 3D mesh grille as seen on the Harrier, the 7-seater SUV gets a new tri-arrow grille with a chrome finish. The new Safari gets functional roof rails with a loading capacity of 75 kgs. We can see ‘Safari’ inscribed in chrome finish on both the rails. This particular feature is not present on the Harrier. On the sides, the Safari gets a new set of 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with flared wheel arches instead of the 17-inch wheels. Talking about the rear section of the two SUVs, we could notice a lot of difference. The Safari features a new D-pillar design. The rear profile of the SUV looks quite muscular in comparison to the Harrier due to the new set of LED tail-lamps. The size of the rear quarter glass has been increased in the new Safari. As for the boot lid, the 2021 Safari flaunts a flatter one with ‘Safari’ inscribed in chrome instead of the hunchback type boot shape. The rear bumper gets a silver finish with a Harrier-like twin exhaust setup. The rear fog lamps are also a bit slimmer than what we get on the Harrier.
Tata Safari and Tata Harrier: Dimensions
Talking about the dimensions, Tata Safari’s width and wheelbase are the same as that of the Harrier. Tata has increased the length of Safari by 63mm to accommodate the third row of seats. Furthermore, the new SUV also offers an extra headroom of 80mm in comparison to the Harrier.

Tata Safari and Tata Harrier: Seating Configuration
The new Safari is basically a three-row version of Harrier. It will be offered in 6-seater and 7-seater options. The 6-seater version will get captain seats in the second row while the 7-seater model will get a bench type seating arrangement in the second row. Tata Harrier, on the other hand, only gets a 5-seater configuration.
Tata Safari and Tata Harrier: Interior Features & Upholstery
The new Safari comes with electronic steering which makes it easy to handle the car in heavy traffic or while parking while the Harrier is offered with hydraulic steering. Furthermore, the 2021 Safari boasts of an Oyster White interior with Ashwood inserts for the dashboard. The Harrier, on the other hand, features Oak brown interior. The rest of the features have been retained from the Harrier.
Tata Safari and Tata Harrier: Safety Features
Both Tata Safari and Tata Harrier are based on the same OMEGA ARC platform. When we talk about safety features, the new SUV will get a few extra features. These will include disc brakes at all corners, tyre pressure monitoring system, dynamic wheel torque by brake, brake disc wiping, and engine drag torque control. Besides these, the rest of the features like ABS with EBD, CSC, Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) will be retained from the Harrier.
