News Highlights

  • The Punch model has already received a five-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
  • The Punch EV is available at an introductory price of INR 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors is all set to send the new Punch EV for Bharat New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash testing in the coming days. Following the Tata Safari and Harrier’s impressive performance, the newly launched EV will also be sent for a crash test under India's brand-new PV safety programme, Bharat NCAP.

The MD at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, Shailesh Chandra, recently spoke to the media and stated that, “Punch is already tested and has a robust structure which delivers a five-star safety rating. The Punch EV is possibly more robust in the way it has been designed. Also, as a pure EV architecture, there is no doubt that we have designed this car for meeting that kind of a safety requirement and there is every intention of submitting this for Bharat NCAP testing also. We can only talk about safety ratings when we get the final result but the answer is yes, we will be offering this for BNCAP.”

Tata Motors launched the Punch EV, one of its most remarkable electric SUVs in the EV line-up in the country, on January 18, 2024. The Punch EV is available at an introductory price of INR 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is currently available in four distinct variants: Empowered, Smart, Empowered+, and Adventure. The top-most variant of the electric SUV is priced at INR 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tata Punch electric SUV is inspired by the Acti.ev platform, which is specifically designed to help variants achieve five-star safety ratings in crash tests. The manufacturer will launch its much-anticipated Sierra and Curvv SUVs in the next two years.

The Punch EV gets a completely new front fascia, a model-specific bumper, a new LED lightbar, and newly designed headlamps. The new model has the same profile as the outgoing internal combustion model. It will rival the likes of the Citroen eC3 in the market.

The outgoing Punch model has already received a five-star safety rating from Global NCAP, and it will be interesting to witness the new EV platform's performance in the crash tests. The outgoing Tata Punch SUV is based on the ALFA architecture.
