The future of the auto industry in India is going to be all-electric and the makers are also embracing the reality of the future. While some companies like the South Korean maker Hyundai have already launched their products like Kona electric SUV in the market. Other makers like Maruti Suzuki are still testing the electric WagonR for India. One such Indian maker which is testing its electric vehicles is Tata Motors which is planning to launch a total of 4 electric vehicles in Indian market. One of these 4 products will be the electric version of Nexon sub-4 metre compact SUV. While the vehicle had already been spied, the new spyshots show under the hood photos of Nexon EV. The Nexon EV is supposed to hit Indian markets some time in 2020. Tata Motors started the trial production of the Nexon EV earlier this year and as per reports, three units of the Nexon EV have been produced till now.

The new pics show the area under the front hood of the SUV. While the picture is not exactly clear, one can distinctly see that the normal engine components are missing and there is what looks like a junction box. Earlier the spyshots had shown a photo of Tata Nexon where the grille of the SUV was lacking a radiator, which is often the case with electric vehicles. Tata has already supplied the Tigor EV to EESL in India and has in part fulfilled the bulk order it received from the government.

As far as the internals of the electric version of Nexon are concerned, it could be same as the electric version of the Altroz premium hatchback. The new electric car will come with a permanent magnet AC electric motor, but the brand has not revealed the battery capacity of the vehicle yet. What the company has hinted at is that the new Altroz electric hatchback could have a range of around 250-300 kilometres and the battery will come with the fast charge option that will enable the car to juice up to 80% in just an hour. Therefore, one can expect the same set of specifications to make their way to the Nexon EV as well.

The Indian market will soon see a flurry of action in the electric cars department. While Hyundai has already kickstarted things with their Kona premium electric SUV, MG is supposed to bring a relatively affordable eZS electric SUV next year. Then Mahindra is also planning to launch the electric version of their XUV300 in Indian market and Maruti is already testing the WagonR EV for India. Therefore, amid the growing anticipation in the electric car space in India, Tata Nexon EV will surely bring some more momentum to the segment here.
