Once launched, the Nexon will be the only SUV in the country to have petrol, diesel, CNG and all-electric versions

Tata Motors had recently launched the Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG in the Indian market. Now, the CNG powered version of the Nexon SUV has been spotted as a test mule in Pune by our friends at Team-BHP. The spied unit was apparently coming out of a CNG station. It has been learnt that Tata Nexon CNG will be launched in the second half of this year in India. Once launched, the Nexon will be the only SUV in the country to have petrol, diesel, CNG and all-electric versions. It will face stiff competition from Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG which will also launch around the same time.

Currently, Tata Nexon is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel variants draw power from a 1.5L turbocharged engine which develops 108 bhp and 260 Nm. On the other hand, the petrol variants get a 1.2L turbo unit which generates maximum power of 118 bhp and peak torque of 170 Nm. The available transmission choices are 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT units. As for the CNG version, it will be offered with the same 1.2L petrol engine albeit with a slight dip in power and torque figures. It is highly unlikely that Tata Nexon CNG will be offered with an AMT gearbox identical to the recently launched Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG. No other mechanical changes will take place in the CNG powered SUV.

On the lines of Tata Tiago iCNG and Tata Tigor iCNG, the company might introduce a couple of new exclusive color options with the Nexon CNG. Some of the notable features in the SUV could be Projector Headlamps with LED DRLs, Chrome embellishments on the exteriors, Premium black & beige dual tone interiors, Rain sensing wipers, Automatic headlamps, Digital instrument cluster, Dual tone roof and new seat fabric. The centre console will retain the floating touchscreen infotainment system from the ICE version with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The safety features too will be carried over from the standard version in the form of dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability control.
