Mihup Communication & Harman International to provide a new vernacular voice assistant in Tata cars and SUVs

Tata Motors will be introducing an Indian vernacular voice assistant in its cars and SUVs in India. This particular feature is co-developed by Mihup Communication (A kolkata-based start-up) and Harman International. Through this partnership, the homegrown automaker aims to enhance the user experience. Currently, the feature is offered with Tata Nexon and Altroz XZ(O). It supports a mix of Hindi and English languages and can be operated without internet connectivity as well. Earlier, the in-vehicle voice assistant in Tata Motors cars came equipped with a limited dictionary and no vernacular language or Indian dialect support.

Talking about Mihup’s AVA auto platform, it offers online, offline, and hybrid connectivity options among other features. The system supports the Hinglish language. It responds back based on the user voice command without the need for a manual switch. The AVA Auto might also support ‘Tamilish’ and ‘Bengalish’ anytime soon. Furthermore, the company aims to cover all major languages by 2022. As of now, the offline mode has been deployed on variants of Tata Nexon and Tata Altroz

Besides these, the AVA Auto enables the driver to access hands-free voice-based control car functions like air-conditioning, AM, FM, volume, and music system. It also provides Natural language support for making phone calls and playing music from USB. It is being estimated that by 2022, about 95 percent of the population will start using the in-vehicle voice assistant.
