Tata Harrier has been in the news ever since it was launched in India. It is that one SUV from the brand, which comes with the most modern design in the company’s line-up. Tata Harrier locks horns with models like Creta, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500 in the Indian market. There are many reasons behind the success of the Tata Harrier in the market, and the top among them is pricing. With the Harrier, the Indian maker managed to nail the pricing accurately. The prices for Tata Harrier start at Rs. 12.69 lakhs, ex-showroom.

The impact of the SUV has been so huge in the market that recently Mahindra even launched a new variant of XUV500, which is priced lower than the Tata Harrier in the market. However, the Indian maker has now decided to slightly raise the prices of the Harrier line-up in the Indian market. The reason behind this could perhaps be the solid sales of the SUV in the market and the company may have felt that a little hike in prices won’t impact the sales so much. The Harrier’s prices have been hiked across the range by up to Rs. 35,000. The base XE trim is has seen a hike of Rs. 30,000, the XM trim is pricier by Rs. 31,000, the XT trim saw a rise of Rs. 30,000 and the top-end XZ trim has seen the highest hike of Rs. 35,000. The new ex-showroom Delhi price of the Tata Harrier starts from Rs. 12.99 lakhs (XE). The XM, XT and XZ trims are priced at Rs. 14.06 lakhs, Rs. 15.25 lakhs and Rs. 16.56 lakhs respectively.

This is not something new that has been seen with the brand in the Indian market. Tata has done the same for Tiago and Nexon in the past as well. The two cars were launched in the Indian market at jaw dropping prices but the later price hikes of the two models has now led to the cars being around a lakh rupees more expensive than the price at which they were launched initially. The same story could also turn out to be true for Harrier, although this is the first ever price hike for the car. This does not say that the Tiago, Nexon, or even the Harrier are not value-for-money models in the market. Despite the price hike all the three models from the brand still continue to offer great value to the customers at their prices.

Talking about the Tata Harrier, the new design philosophy of the brand sure is a great head turner, with the futuristic design trend that the Tata Harrier has brought in the segment, it sure looks extraordinary. Moving on to the mechanical aspects of the SUV, the new Harrier comes only in a diesel variant with the customers getting a Fiat-sourced 2L MultiJet diesel engine under the hood. Renamed as KRYOTEC by Tata, the engine is rated for 140 PS and 350 Nm. The engine on Tata SUV currently comes equipped only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed torque converter unit sourced from Hyundai will be offered sometime this year as well. Tata is also expected to bring out a 7-seater version of the Harrier by the name of Cassini in the Indian market in the coming months.
