Tata Motors will be unveiling its production-ready Gravitas SUV on the 26th of January 2021. The Gravitas will share its underpinnings with the 5-seater Harrier. As for the price, it will be slightly premium over the Harrier. At present, Tata Harrier falls in the price range of Rs 13.84 lakhs - Rs 20.38 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, the SUV will compete against the likes of MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta 7-seater. The Tata Gravitas unveil will give us a fair idea of what the SUV will look like in the production form.Â
The vehicle is based on the OMEGA platform, derived from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. Basically, Gravitas is the 7-seater version of Harrier. Tata has increased 63mm in the 5-seater SUV’s length and 80mm to the height. In order to make it different from the 5-seater SUV, Tata has done minor changes to the front fascia of the Gravitas. Design bits like a long rear overhang, a new alloy wheel design, and a stepped roof do set Tata’s flagship SUV apart. However, from B-pillar onwards, the upcoming SUV looks similar to the Harrier.Â
If we talk about the cabin inside, the Gravitas will get a similar dashboard layout as the Harrier. The SUV also gets features like a floating touchscreen infotainment head-unit and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Furthermore, it will be offered with optional captain seats in the second row.Â
Performance-wise, the upcoming SUV will provide a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine. The engine will generate a maximum power output of 170 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Furthermore, the engine can be availed with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.Â
