News Highlights

  • Tata Gravitas will come in 6-seater and 7-seater versions
  • Tata Gravitas was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo

Tata Motors has been planning to launch the Gravitas SUV for the past half an year in the Indian market. But, COVID-19 pandemic played the spoilsport and it had no choice but to postpone the launch to early 2021. Now, the interior of Tata Gravitas has been captured in a video by our friends at AutoTrend at a fuel station. Being showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in pre-production guise, it will take on the likes of MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500 in the country while pricing is expected to start Rs 13 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) onwards.

Essentially a stretched version of Tata Harrier, the Gravitas will come with an added third row of seating. It will be introduced in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations while having the same wheelbase as the Harrier. However, it will be longer, wider and taller than Harrier by 63mm, 72mm and 80mm, respectively. The 6-seater avatar will come with captain seats in the middle row. The features will be carried over as well, but the upholstery will be finished in a new color scheme. At the outside, it will be identical to the Harrier except for a handful of updates to accommodate the third row of seats. The safety features are also expected to be the same as in the all high-end Tata cars.

Mechanically, Tata Gravitas will be powered by a BS6 compliant 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged Kyrotech diesel engine which we have already seen with MG Hector and Tata Harrier. The Fiat-sourced unit will churn out a top power of 167bhp and peak torque of 350Nm while paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Tata might also introduce a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission as option. It is not yet clear if we would see an AWD system or not. Meanwhile, in other news, Tata Motors has two more products in the pipeline in the form of Altroz turbo and HBX micro-SUV. Tata Altroz turbo will be launched during the festive season this year while Tata HBX will arrive in March 2021.
