Due to the rising population and other environmental concerns, a lot of manufacturers are keenly working on launching electric vehicles in the Indian market. It seems that Suzuki too is preparing to enter this space soon. The brand is planning to launch its new electric scooters in the market as early as the beginning of next year.
Recently, two Suzuki Burgman Street-based electric scooters were spotted doing test runs. At the first glance, the test mules looked like the regular Burgman Street but a closer inspection revealed that the exhaust system was absent. This further indicates the presence of an electric powertrain. In comparison to the petrol version, this test mule had the shock absorber positioned on the right side. From the images, we could also see the telescopic front suspension which was similar to the one present in the regular Burgman 125. The disc brake could also be spotted at the front. The test mules were also seen sporting a 12-inch wheel at the front and a 10-inch wheel at the rear, both of them being alloy units.
Furthermore, the upcoming Suzuki electric scooter might also feature a fully-digital LCD instrument cluster and a single-piece seat. The electric scooter gets a sporty front look. It is seen in Pearl Mirage White color which is also available on the Burgman 125. The spied electric scooter further gets blue inserts on the body which give it an EV-specific look. Talking about the specifications, nothing has been revealed yet. Since the upcoming electric scooter will rival the likes of the Ather 450, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak, we can expect similar levels of performance.
Currently, the Burgman Street on sale is powered by a 124cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 8.6 bhp power at 6,750 rpm and 10 Nm torque at 5,500 rpm. The test mules in the spy shots look production-ready. Thus we can expect Suzuki’s electric scooter to arrive in the Indian market by early next year. Also, it will be priced at around Rs 1 Lakh (ex-showroom).
