Skoda Slavia has entered series production at the company's plant in Chakan, Pune. Underpinning the Made-for-India MQB-A0-IN platform, it is the second model by the European brand under the INDIA 2.0 project. The Slavia is expected to go on sale from March 2022 in the Indian market in petrol fuel trim across three trims namely Active, Ambition and Style. The sedan will have local content of over 95 percent so we can expect it to come in a price range of Rs 9-13 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) while locking horns with Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Skoda Slavia will be the broadest sedan in its segment with a width of 1752 mm. It has a boot capacity of 521 litres. There will be LED headlamps and a LED tail lamp cluster as standard fitment. The sedan will ride on dual-tone alloy wheels with an exclusive Skoda badge while offered in two new colors namely metallic Crystal Blue and Tornado Red. The cabin of the Slavia is based on the latest design concept of Skoda’s European models. Some of the notable features will include touch-control Climatronic Automatic AC with Air Care function, Front ventilated seats in leather and a free-standing 25.4-cm touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink technology and MyŠKODA Connect.
As for safety features, it will boast of six airbags, ESC, Multi-Collision Brake, Tyre Pressure Monitor System, Hill-Hold Control, rain and light sensors, cruise control and ISOFIX anchors. Mechanically, Skoda Slavia will be available with two petrol engines: 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo and 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo units. The former will develop top power of 113 bhp while the latter churns out 147 bhp with Skoda's active cylinder technology (ACT) also at the helm of affairs. The ACT automatically shuts down two cylinders when the engine load is low in order to boost the mileage. The transmission choices will include 7-speed DSG automatic, 6-speed torque converter automatic and 6-speed manual units.
Zac Hollis, Brand Director, ŠKODA AUTO India, said, “The SLAVIA is an all-new value luxury sedan for India, specially developed and meticulously designed considering the requirements and expectations of our customers. In times where interest for crossovers and SUVs is high, the SLAVIA is a measure of ŠKODA AUTO’s confidence that it is the product and not the category or body shape that will drive customer demand. We have already clocked in substantial growth over the last year and are rapidly expanding our network and customer touchpoints to bring more customers into the ŠKODA family. The SLAVIA will carry forward the thrust and provide impetus and excitement to fans of ŠKODA AUTO India and customers looking for a set of wheels that offers a fantastic driving experience and is gorgeous inside out.”
