The UV market has eaten into passenger car sales and now is over 27 percent of all cars sold. Between April-November 2017, UVs accounted for 5,97,157 units (April-November 2016: 497,851), which is a growth of 20 percent.

Maruti Suzuki UVs (Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Gypsy and the Ertiga) commanded 28.59 percent market share in the UV segment, selling 1,70,702 units (April-November 2016: 1,27,182). Honda Cars India sold 40,238 UVs between April-November 2017 (April-November 2016: 17,571), which is a 129 percent increase, taking its market share to 6.74 percent. The Nexon and the Hexa, together, have contributed to rising sales for Tata Motors. The company sold 25,338 units between April-November (April-November 2016: 10,444), which is a growth of 142.6 percent. The company commanded 4.24 percent of the UV market between April-November 2017.

Hyundai Motor India sold 8,528 units of the Creta in November, growing 25 percent (November 2016: 6,822). Hyundai’s cumulative UV sales are 72,877 units between April-November 2017 (April-November 2016: 64,064). Mahindra & Mahindra sold 1,51,596 UVs in the first eight months of this fiscal (April-November 2016: 144,009), registering a growth rate of 5.26 percent. Toyota Kirloskar Motor dispatched 64,943 units of UVs between April-November (April-November 2016: 59,867), growing 8.47 percent. Ford India managed to sell only 35,188 UVs in the April-November 2017 period (April-November 2016: 38,362), posting a decline of 8.27 percent. However, the company’s facelifted EcoSport sold 5,474 since its recent launch.
