Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

Earlier, there were reports coming in about the non-availability of Alto K10 at Maruti Suzuki dealerships in the early days of April and now the company has gone ahead and updated their entry-level Alto K10 hatchback as per the new safety rules stated under the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment  Program (BNVSAP) norms. The update brings some standard safety features to the Alto K10 and marks an increment of Rs. 10,000 on the price for the base model of Alto K10.

With the new update in safety features, driver-side airbag, ABS, speed alert system, seat-belt reminders for driver and front passenger and rear parking sensors are not part of the standard equipment on all models of Alto K10 in India. This update brings only safety upgrade to the Alto K10 and the aesthetics or the mechanicals of the car remain unchanged.

Maruti has equipped the Alto K10 with a 1L 3 cylinder petrol engine rated to deliver 67 Bhp and 90 Nm. Maruti Suzuki also offers the car in a petrol-CNG dual fuel configuration, and the outputs for the CNG equipped engine are 58 Bhp and 78 Nm. The petrol-CNG dual fuel option and the normal petrol version come with a 5 speed gearbox as standard whereas the petrol only version also comes with an optional 5 speed AMT automatic gearbox. The fuel economy for the Alto K10 is 24.07 Kmpl. Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 locks horns with Renault Kwid 1.0, Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki Alto has been one of the steady sellers for the company and rakes in good numbers every month. The company’s entry level offering is aimed mainly at new car customers who are making the switch from two-wheelers to a 4-wheeler. With the new safety upgrades, the Alto will continue to be sold unhindered till October this year, the time when more strict safety norms come into force.

Alto 800 and Alto K10 both are long due for a generation overhaul, and Maruti has also been testing the new version of the hatchbacks since quite some time now. The company had presented the Future S Concept at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo and there are reports that the new Alto models could be based on the same with a SUV-inspired design. This new styling choice will arm the upcoming Maruti hatchback to take on the Renault Kwid in the segment. The new models of Alto will not only come with new styling but will also offer increased ground clearance and interior space than the current models.
