Tata Harrier has been in the news ever since it was launched in India. It is that one SUV from the brand, which comes with the most modern design in the company’s line-up. Tata Harrier locks horns with models like Creta, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500 in the Indian market. Although Harrier will face some formidable rivals in the form the MG Hector and Kia Seltos in the coming times. As of now, the SUV is totally shattering the competition in the market. The impact of the SUV has been so huge in the market that recently Mahindra even launched a new variant of XUV500, which is priced lower than the Tata Harrier in the market. However, this too has not been able to stop the onslaught of the Harrier in the market.

Although Tata Motors has been facing an overall decline in the sales as compared to last year, Tata Harrier has been pulling in good numbers for the brand. Taking a look at the sales figures for last month, Tata sold 1,779 units of Harrier. On the other hand Mahindra had to settle for only 1,195 units of XUV500. Not that the US carmaker Jeep's Compass has performed better than the Harrier. The sales for Compass in May stood at only 977 units.

There are many reasons behind the success of the Tata Harrier in the market, and the top among them is pricing. With the Harrier, the Indian maker managed to nail the pricing accurately. The prices for Tata Harrier start at Rs. 12.69 lakhs, ex-showroom. Not that the base variant of the car is bare bones as the base XE variant of Tata Harrier is loaded with features like projector headlamps, dual-function daytime running lamps, door mirror-mounted logo projector, electronic ORVMs, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS and EBD.

Moving on to design of the Harrier, the new design philosophy of the brand sure is a great head turner, with the futuristic design trend that the Tata Harrier has brought in the segment, it sure looks extraordinary. SUV customers in India are naturally attracted to models that have a commanding street presence and with the IMPACT 2.0 design language, Tata Harrier has a very futuristic design that manages to turn all the heads on the road. The good looks of the exterior of Tata Harrier are complemented by the interiors as well. The increased dimensions of the Harrier means that the car is very spacious from inside. Not to mention that the cabin of the Harrier is also very well appointed and comes loaded with features.

Talking about the engine of the Tata Harrier, the new SUV comes only in a diesel variant with the customers getting a Fiat-sourced 2L MultiJet diesel engine under the hood. Renamed as KRYOTEC by Tata, the engine is rated for 140 PS and 350 Nm. The engine on Tata SUV currently comes equipped only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed torque converter unit sourced from Hyundai will be offered sometime this year as well. Tata is also expected to bring out a 7-seater version of the Harrier by the name of Cassini in the Indian market in the coming months.
