French automaker Renault has revealed its next big launch for India in 2019. It is a compact MPV named Triber. The company showcased this car at an even just a few days ago and set July deadline its launch. Now, sources have revealed that the company will adopt a very aggressive pricing strategy for the upcoming car. The base variant of the car will start from Rs. 4.4 lakhs and go all the way up to Rs. 5.8 lakhs for the top model. Also, the two additional seats that can be installed as the third row in this unique compact MPV can be purchased for Rs. 3,000 each. Well, this is what sets this car apart. No other MPV in India has so far offered this kind of a configuration. The Triber targets younger car buyers who want a modern looking, spacious MPV that is very affordable as well.
To the unacquainted, Renault Triber will be the French automaker's second MPV for India with the first being the slow-selling Lodgy. However, Triber will be different from Lodgy in many ways. Unlike Lodgy, which is a diesel-only MPV that will be discontinued in 2020 as the Bharat Stage 6 emission norms come into effect, the Triber will be a petrol-only car. It will use the same 1-liter and 3-cylinder petrol engine found on Kwid but will be tuned to produce 72 Bhp power and 96 Nm torque.
This engine will come with two gearbox options: a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The Triber will be a front-wheel driven car based on Renault Kwid's CMF-A platform. Apart from selling this compact MPV in India, Renault also plans to export it to developing markets where the Kwid is quite popular.
This compact MPV will be 3,990 mm long, allowing it to qualify for excise duty benefits as it is classified as a small car. Triber will be 1,739 mm wide while the wheelbase will be 2,636 mm. The height of the MPV is 1,643 mm and it has a ground clearance of 182 mm. This is quite ample for most Indian conditions. The kerb weight of the car is 947kg. This means that the 1-liter petrol engine should be peppy enough for everyday use.
With Triber, Renault has tried to boost interior space and the compact MPV comes with decent shoulder room across all three rows: 1,356 mm in the first row, 1,330 mm in the second row and 1,216 mm in the third row. While airbags, reverse parking sensors, and ABS will be standard on the top-end trim, there are other features like touchscreen infotainment system and keyless entry. Bookings for the car will start shortly and deliveries will start right from the launch date.
