Renault Kiger was unveiled globally yesterday with launch slated for the end of February 2021.

Renault Kiger was unveiled globally yesterday, January 28, 2021. The subcompact SUV will be launched first in India before making its way to the international markets. We can expect the new SUV from Renault India to arrive by the end of February 2021. This will be the fourth vehicle from the company after Triber, Duster and Kwid in the Indian market. There is no price announcement as of now but there are huge expectations of Renault Kiger undercutting its nearest rival Nissan Magnite in terms or pricing. We can expect Renault Kiger to retail at a starting price of Rs 5 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India). As we await the official launch, here are the top 10 things that you should know about Renault Kiger:


Design

The new subcompact SUV is quite different from the other Renault models in terms of design. The buyers can look forward to the sculpted bonnet, tri-LED headlights, LED DRLs and a huge 'wing' front grille at the front.  On the other hand, the rear profile boasts of double C-shaped LED tail lights. The design lends a premium look to the vehicle. 


High Ground Clearance

Renault Kiger boasts of a ground clearance of 205 mm which is the same as the most affordable subcompact SUV Nissan Magnite. With a good ground clearance, buyers will be able to navigate through harsh terrains without scraping the vehicle against the ground.


Two-tone body colour

Renault Kiger will retail in 6 colour options namely Ice Cool White, Planet Grey, Moonlight Grey, Mahogany Brown, Caspian Blue, Radiant Red with Mystery Black Roof. All variants will come with a two-tone option. 




Spacious Interior

The subcompact SUV is based on the CMF A+ platform which also underpins Triber. It offers a segment-leading spacious interior with significant cabin storage and cargo space. Renault Kiger offers a 710-mm Couple Distance between seats which is the best in the subcompact SUV segment in India. At the rear, KIGER provides best in segment second-row legroom (222 mm) and elbow room (1431 mm).


Boot capacity

The new SUV from Renault comes with the best boot capacity in the segment of 405 litres. It can be further extended to 879 litres if the second row is folded.


Infotainment system

The subcompact SUV boasts of an 8-inch floating touch screen infotainment system with support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay & Voice Commands.


Premium sound system

Renault Kiger boasts of an all-new tuned quality sound system. The Auditorium 3D Sound system by Arkamys diffuses 3D sound to suit the materials and shape of the passenger compartment. The cabin comes with eight onboard speakers (four boomers, four tweeters). At the higher trim levels, the system automatically adjusts sound volume as per the speed of the car.


Multi-Driving Modes

Renault Kiger comes with 3 driving modes namely Normal, Eco and Sport. The Normal mode is perfect for driving in the city traffic while in the Eco mode, one can employ it for conserving fuel. The Sport mode, as the name suggests, is for crisper engine response and faster shifting of gears.


Additional Accessories

Renault India would be offering 5 additional accessories to the Kiger customers. The packs are a combination of comfort features and visual enhancements. The packs are namely Smart, Smart+, SUV, Attractive and Essential.



First-in-segment Air Filter

Renault Kiger comes equipped with the first in segment PM2.5 Clean Air Filter. The advanced atmospheric filter fitted into the ventilation system leads to the good air quality inside the SUV.


Four engine-transmission configurations

The base variants will be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine. It will deliver a power output of 71bhp and peak torque of 96Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual as well as 5-speed EASY-R AMT units. The top-end variants will house a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under the hood. The engine will belt out 99bhp of maximum power output and peak torque of 160Nm.


Best in segment fuel efficiency

Indian buyers are conscious of fuel efficiency to a huge extent, particularly in the SUV segment. Renault Kiger would appeal to the Indian buyers as it boasts of the segment-leading mileage of 20 kmpl according to Renault India.
