The model will go on sale in the country from next month, it will be based on the CMF-A+ platform same as Nissan Magnite.

Renault India has commenced the production of the upcoming Kiger at its Chennai manufacturing facility. The subcompact SUV would be officially launched in the country on February 15, 2021. The model will go on sale from next month, it will be based on the CMF-A+ platform which is the same as Nissan Magnite. Only last month, Renault Kiger was unveiled exclusively for the Indian market and is quite similar to the Magnite in terms of engine options and features. According to the manufacturer, the car will be first launched in India before being exported to the international markets. Renault Kiger will rival the likes of Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV30 in its segment. Indian buyers can expect Renault Kiger's price to start from Rs 5.0 lakh (ex-showroom), India. This adoption of an aggressive pricing will be done to undercut its rivals.

As promised by the manufacturer, the production-ready model is 80 percent similar to the Concept unveiled during the Delhi Auto Expo 2020. Talking about the dynamic design, the front flaunts a striking grille, LED DRLs and split LED headlamps. Towards the rear, one can look forward to C-shaped LED taillights and a sporty bumper. Regarding the wheels, the lower variants would come equipped with 16-inch steel rims while the top-end trims would provide 16-inch diamond cut alloys. There will be a total of six colour options namely Ice Cool White, Planet Grey, Moonlight Grey, Mahogany Brown, Caspian Blue, and Radiant Red with Mystery Black roof (in top-spec variant). Dual tone colour options will also be made available on all the variants.

Moving on to the interior, the vehicle will boast of 7-inch multi-skin reconfigurable TFT colour instrument cluster and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Also, the top-end Renault Kiger trim will come loaded with equipment like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED ambient lighting, PM 2.5 filter, a reverse parking camera, eight-speaker Arkamys sound system among many others. In terms of safety features, the fully loaded Renault Kiger would offer dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and a seatbelt reminder system.

New Renault Kiger borrows its powertrains from Nissan Magnite, so there are two petrol engine options with no diesel engine as of now. Buyers can opt from a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit and 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. The former delivers 72 bhp of power output and 96 Nm of peak torque while the latter produces 100 bhp of power with 160Nm torque. The four-wheeler will get a 5-speed manual as standard while the turbo-petrol model will offer a CVT automatic option too. The naturally aspirated Kiger will cater to a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) which is not present in the Nissan Magnite. Plus, there would be 3 driving modes namely Eco, Normal and Sport on offer.
