Renault's journey began in 2005 in India through a partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra. The French carmaker did not make a significant impact until 2012 when it launched its compact SUV, Renault Duster.

After that, it launched the famous Renault Triber and Kwid, and then the sales went cold. The Renault is now planning to regain some significant market share in India by launching five new models by 2027.

It aims to increase its Indian PV segment market share to 5% with the launch of cars in the A, B+, and C-SUV segments. The upcoming Renault cars will be new and updated versions of the old models. The brand is also investing heavily to speed up the launch.

Kickstarting India plans with the second biggest design centre

Renault Design Centre Chennai is the brand's largest design facility outside of France and is funded with Rs. 14.68 crore. The studio is equipped with cutting-edge design technology.

The company built it to understand the nuances of the Indian car market and speed up the design-engineer-build cycle for the upcoming models.

Renault's expected car launches in India

Renault is going big for its "International Game Plan 2027." It is already in the process of acquiring the 100% ownership of RNAIPL (Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited).

The French carmaker is mainly targeting the SUV segment with the new-generation Duster and the all-new Bigster. It will keep producing current popular models, the Kiger and Triber, with upgrades.

Kiger is a sub-compact SUV, and Triber is an affordable 7-seater MPV. The Bigster will be a fresh C-segment, 3-row SUV based on the Dacia Bigster concept showcased globally. The upcoming Duster will likely be based on the global 3rd-gen Duster with the CMF-B modular platform.

Renault's plans for EV cars in India

Renault has planned to develop strong hybrid powertrains and a brand-new EV model as part of the brand's 2027 plan for India. This EV might be positioned in a higher price bracket of Rs. 17 lacs to Rs. 25 lacs. The expected Renault Duster and Bigster could get the new hybrid platforms and engines.
