The couple lost their lives when their BMW Z4 crashed into a tree and caught fire.

The racing world awoke to tragic news early this Saturday, as reports of the death Ashwin Sundar, 27, (a multiple national racing driver on two and four wheels) and his wife Niveditha came in. The couple lost their lives when their BMW Z4 crashed into a tree and caught fire. The accident occurred around Pattinapakkam area on the Santhome High Road.

The couple was trapped inside the car after the collision and thus were engulfed in the resulting flames. The police could only identify them due to the car's registration number. According to eyewitnesses, it took them almost 30 minutes to retrieve their bodies. Initial reports suggest that the couple was returning from a friend's place at MRC Nagar in Raja Annamalaipuram. Sundar was an established racing driver - he won the MRF Challenge beating the likes of current F2 driver Jordan King in 2011-12.
