The Taycan wins 2020 World Performance Car and World Luxury Car Awards.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the 2020 World Car Awards going to be held at the New York Auto Show was canceled. But the winners were announced during the live online conference by the WCOTY organization. At this year’s World Car of the Year Awards 2020 (WCOTY), Porsche Taycan won two titles namely World Luxury Car and World Performance Car of the Year. Porsche Taycan is another electric car that swept the awards along with Kia Soul EV.

Porsche Taycan became the World Performance Car with 867 points. In the performance category, it succeeded in a historic triple battle against the 911 and the 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4. Furthermore, in the World Luxury Car category, Taycan faced the competition of the 911 and the Mercedes-Benz EQC. 86 international motor journalists voted and assessed over 50 new cars.

“This double win in the categories World Performance Car and World Luxury Car underlines what we wanted to achieve when we developed the Taycan. We wanted to create a driver-focused, fully electric sports car that can take on any Performance Car. At the same time, we focused on uncompromised everyday-usability and contemporary, digital luxury and comfort for four passengers. We are delighted that the WCOTY jury rewards these efforts,” as commented Michael Steiner - Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development.

Porsche Taycan is the first production electric vehicle to use a two-speed transmission. It also uses an 800-volt electrical system, that allows quicker acceleration along with shorter recharge time. The Turbo S variant with launch control activated can hit a 100 kmph in a scorching 2.5 seconds.
