The third-generation car is lighter and more powerful than its predecessor.

The Cayenne has been thoroughly revamped and re-engineered. While the design of the exterior may not look like a stark departure from the earlier car, this car is all-new under the skin.

The SUV is the company’s second most sold vehicle, and is the best-selling model for Porsche in India. This new car is built on a lighter and more contemporary platform, an features an aluminium body structure, a 48V electrical system and a redesigned interior with added connectivity options.

“The new Cayenne is a Porsche by all means and with no compromises,” said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, speaking at the Cayenne’s launch. “Never before has it borrowed so much from the 911.”

The car will make its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September and will make its way to India by June 2018. The Cayenne and Cayenne S will be showed first. The standard Cayenne runs the same turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 as the new Panamera, the unit makes 330hp and 450Nm. The Cayenne S is fitted with a more powerful 2.9-litre turbo V6 engine that puts out 428hp and 549Nm.

A pair of plug-in hybrid versions is also expected. The new Cayenne will compete with the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Range Rover Sport.
