The company is currently studying e-vehicle regulations, market conditions and infrastructure development in India.

The Italian automaker is contemplating launching e-vehicles in India. The company showed its Vespa Elettrica e-scooter concept at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Vespa Elettrica concept is a combination of the retro styling of the Vespa, mated to a modern electric powertrain.

Ashish Yakhmi, business head, Piaggio India, said, "We're ready with the technology for two-wheelers and four-wheelers as well, but we're waiting for regulations to introduce the vehicles in the country."

"Currently, as (dealership) figures are changing more or less every week, we are at around 150 outlets all across India. Our plan is to more than double it by 2020," said Diego Graffi, CEO and MD, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. "The willingness to tie up with us is increasing fast; but as we grow, we want to maintain the identity and the experience one has at a Motoplex. The matter is not only sales, not only profitability, it is to provide the customer a unique experience. That is our standard for selecting new partners."
