It is confirmed that drivers don’t need to carry physical driving license with them while driving the vehicles. The new law also permitted vehicle owners to skip the physical registration document of the vehicle. The government amended the rule of carrying electronic copies of these two instead of carrying physical documents.
The rule was amended under the section 139 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act of 1989, which allows the vehicle owners to carry the digital copies of the documents. However, the scanned copies and images of the documents will not do the job instead one has to use the Central governments application Digi-Locker for this purpose.
Apart from driving license and registration document, there are other documents like insurance, fitness and permit, the certificate for pollution under check can also be produced digitally via this app.
