  • The electric motor in the new Mantis can produce 28 kW (37.5 bhp) and a 9-kWh battery pack.

Orxa Energies is all set to launch the Mantis electric motorcycle on November 21, 2023. The Bengaluru-based startup has been planning to launch this motorcycle for four years. This electric motorcycle made its debut in 2019 at India Bike Week. Ever since its official debut, the motorcycle has received various upgrades. In the electric motorcycle segment, it is ready to take on the Ultraviolette F77.

The founders of Orxa Energies, Dr. Prajwal Sabnis and Ranjita Ravi, are motorcycle enthusiasts, and they wanted to own an electric performance motorcycle in 2015, which was not available in the Indian market at the time. Also, there were only a few electric motorcycles available globally, and those too were very expensive options, such as the Zero Motorcycles. The desire to own a performance-based electric bike led to the development of the Mantis. The Mantis will be driven by an electric drivetrain that promises performance and agility. Orxa also builds batteries for defence drones.

Orxa Energies first showcased the Mantis e-bike in 2019. But, the development process hit a downfall due to the pandemic lockdown. As a result, the makers extended the manufacturing time and switched from swappable batteries to fixed batteries in the new e-bike. The electric motor in the new Mantis can produce 28 kW (37.5 bhp) and a 9-kWh battery pack, along with a claimed range of 200 km.

Orxa moved into its new R&D facility in June this year, and it accelerated the development process of the Mantis. The motorcycle has been through various levels of testing over the years. This electric vehicle gained popularity among electric experts after completing the Bharatmala. In the Electric Bharatmala, the makers covered 7,000 km in just 28 days on two Mantis electric bikes. Both Mantis e-bikes covered a total of over 14,000 km. During the test drive, the machines went through a host of stresses, incorporating elevation changes, varying temperatures, different road surfaces, and off-road areas.

The Mantis will be developed at Orxa’s manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, and production will further increase in a scheduled manner as the demand for the motorcycle increases. The Bengaluru-based startup has been organizing test rides to launch its first electric performance-based bike.
