The EV maker locally manufactures many AAT products incorporating battery packs and electric motors at its manufacturing facility located in Tamil Nadu.

The Bengaluru-based EV maker Ola Electric has gained yet another Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) accreditation for achieving over 50% localization for its famous S1 Pro Gen 2 e-scooter. This makes the scooter the second offering in the company’s lineup to receive the PLI certificate. The first Ola scooter to receive this certificate was the S1 Air.

In the Indian market, the Ola S1 Pro Gen-2 was launched in August last year. For this scooter, Ola has achieved a domestic value addition (DVA) of 51.84%. The PLI certificate was awarded to the Head of Engineering at Ola Electric, Dr. SJ Dhinagar. The main goal of the PLI scheme is to promote local production of advanced automotive technology (AAT) offerings, attracting more investments in the auto manufacturing value chain.

The EV maker locally manufactures many AAT products incorporating battery packs and electric motors at its manufacturing facility located in Tamil Nadu. The plant has a capacity to manufacture one million products. However, parts such as the LCD, TFT dash, and Battery Management System (BMS) integrated into Ola electric scooters are sourced from a Taiwan-based company, Foxconn.

The S1 Pro Gen 2 was launched alongside the more affordable Ola S1 X, and the company received over 75,000 bookings for the Gen 2 within a fortnight. Currently, the brand is working on listing itself on the stock exchange. The EV maker is also aiming to establish one more local battery cell plant in Tamil Nadu. In India, the S1 Pro Gen 2 electric scooter is available at a price of INR 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The electric scooter rivals the likes of the Vida V1 Pro, Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak, and TVS iQube.
