Right After Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Noida Bans BS3 Petrol and BS4 Diesel Cars

From the past week, the air quality also measured as AQI has severely degraded leaving unbreathable air wrapped around the cities. To manage this, the Delhi government implemented few restrictions. These restrictions include putting a ban on Diesel cars, implementing Odd-Even rules, and restricting BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel cars into the city. Seeing this, 3 satellite cities surrounding Delhi, namely, Faridabad, Noida, and Gurugram have also imposed a similar kind of restriction by putting a complete ban over BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel cars. This measure is taken under stage III of GRAPas it is currently implemented in all the aforementioned cities. The authorities have even commented on levying abrupt fines over those seen breaking the rules. 

Delhi implemented strict restrictions over said vehicle movement last week only. And to further the cause and curb the pollution to get AQI under control, Delhi government has officially said about implementing Odd-Even rule post Delhi, starting 13th of November. The Odd-Even rule will be placed over vehicles for a week till November 20. And this scheme can further be alleviated only after keen monitoring of the pollution levels in the city.

On 7th November, Faridabad and Gurugram put a complete ban on BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel cars. Gurugram DC, Nishant Kumar Yadav, said, “If anyone uses the above-mentioned category of vehicles in the district, the challan and legal action will be taken against him under Section 194 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1998. These orders have been implemented in the district with immediate effect and will remain in effect till November 30 or till stage III of GRAP or Graded Response Action Plan is lifted.”

Noida, or Gautam Buddh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, has also strictly put a ban on BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel cars. As of now, Delhi is currently under Stage IV of GRAP restrictions, entry of trucks carrying items of non-essential nature in Noida are also restricted, except for those getting powered up by environment-friendly fuel like CNG, LPG, or electric.

Noida has even restricted movement of petrol vehicles which are over 15 years old and diesel vehicles over 10 years old. The Noida Police Authority has even warned the vehicles about non-compliance of the rules and following impoundment of the vehicle under Motor Vehicle Act. Police in Noida have also requested the vehicle owners to switch off engines at stop signs of traffic signals to stop adding to the alleviated pollution. They have even requested the people to start using bicycles to travel short distances or even opt for public transports as much as possible.
