The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to be launched in the Indian market in 2024

Maruti Suzuki has been planning to upgrade its existing line-up of cars for the global market. As per a media report, the Japanese automaker has started working on the fourth-generation Swift. It will be introduced in the International market in 2022. However, Suzuki might launch this next-gen Swift in 2024 in India. If sources are to be believed, Maruti has already floated a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to potential suppliers.

The media report further suggests that the new Swift will be based on the advanced version of the Heartect platform. The sporty hatchback will come with a refreshed styling along with an updated interior and powertrain. There have been speculations that the next-gen Swift might get a 1.2-litre petrol hybrid engine along with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit. However, the India-spec model is likely to get the same 1.2-litre K-series Dualjet petrol engine as the current model on sale. This powertrain is further expected to be combined with a stronger 48V mild-hybrid unit. In the present state, the motor churns out a maximum power of 89 bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. The engine can be further availed with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox.

Besides these, Suzuki is also planning to launch the WagonR EV which has been in the works for some years now. Recently, it was caught on camera doing test runs on the Indian roads wearing a Toyota logo. This further indicated that the electrified tallboy hatch might be a product under the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota partnership. Another major product expected to enter the market anytime soon is the 5-door version of Jimny. The homegrown automaker is planning to introduce it alongside the updated 3-door Jimny in early 2022. The off-road SUV will get some India-specific feature upgrades and cosmetic changes
