Next-Gen Maruti Celerio

News Highlights

  • 2021 Maruti Celerio based on the Heartect platform that also underpins the successful WagonR model.
  • Next-Gen Maruti Celerio launch pushed to the first quarter of 2021.
  • The hatchback will offer two petrol engine options - a 1.0-litre three-cylinder and a 1.2-litre K-Series powertrain.

Next-Gen Maruti Celerio expected launch in the Indian market has been delayed again. The homegrown automaker had earlier planned to launch it around the festive season however now it seems that the introduction would happen next year. Ahead of the launch, there were multiple spy shots surfacing of the vehicle on the internet albeit in heavy camouflage. We have managed to get information about the latest iteration of the popular hatchback. Indian buyers can look forward to updates in design, styling, performance and features in the upcoming hatchback. Going by the latest spy shots of the new Celerio, it will be based on the Heartect platform that also underpins the successful Maruti WagonR model. Thus our friends at IAB have created a digital rendering of the car based on the spy shots seen online.

The designer’s rendering is based on multiple spy shots captured of the upcoming hatchback. The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio comes with a wider cabin and longer wheelbase compared to the current model on sale. Going by the digital rendering, the New-Generation Celerio will get a host of design updates like a new square-shaped tail lamp design, a sportier look and revamped bumper with creases. These are the major departures from the current model in terms of design. The rendering has captured the rear section perfectly while the front and side profile have not been rendered so far due to lack of good quality spy shots. We can expect the manufacturer to add new design elements to the front profile like new headlights, LED DRLs, revised grille among many others.

Interior is one aspect of the Next-Gen Celerio which will see a lot of noticeable improvements. We can expect new upholstery, SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system on the higher-end trim and a digital instrument cluster. Plenty more would be revealed in the coming days as we inch closer to the launch. Maruti Suzuki will offer standard safety features like dual front airbags, front seat-belt alert, reverse parking sensor and ABS with EBD on this car.

One would be curious to know about the expected powertrain options with the latest iteration of Celerio. The manufacturer has already discontinued the diesel engine due to the stricter emission norms kicking in. Thus the BS6 model when launched was only offered with a petrol engine. Our guess is that hatchback will offer two petrol powertrain options  comprising of a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit and 1.2-litre K-Series engine. Transmission options would be a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT.

Not much is known about the expected Next-Gen 2021 Maruti Celerio pricing but we should be looking at a premium of Rs 50,000 - 60,000 over the current model.
