The new safety rules by the name of Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) will be enforced from 1 April 2019. As the time left to comply with the new rules is less than a week, different manufacturers are updating their vehicles as per the new norms. In a bid to do the same, Honda Activa rival Suzuki Access 125 to has received an update. Now the fair selling automatic scooter from Suzuki has received a Combi-Braking System (CBS). The disc brake version of Access 125 already came with the CBS feature, now the company has added the same feature to the drum brake version as well. This not only makes the scooter comply with the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program, it also makes all the variants of the scooter a lot safer as compared to before.
Suzuki Access 125 comes with a sticker price of Rs. 56,667 ex-showroom Delhi and takes on Honda Activa 125 among other is the market. As far as the CBS technology is concerned, Honda offered it since it launched the Activa 125 in India. The same braking system was popularized by Honda in the initial days and now the government has gone ahead and made the technology compulsory on all two-wheelers with a displacement lesser than 125cc in India.
Talking of the Suzuki Access, it comes powered with a single cylinder 125cc, 4-stroke engine rated to deliver 8.5 Bhp and 10.2 Nm. This engine is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks and monoshocker at the back. Access 125 is known for its reliability, smooth engine, and good performance in the segment and comes with looks that are mildly retro, but plain all-over.
On launching the CBS version of Access 125, Suzuki Motor India Private Limited’s VP for Sales, Marketing, and After-Sales, Mr. Devashish Handa said:

As the name suggests, the CBS system in any two-wheeler proportionately applies the brakes on both the wheels even when the user only applies pressure on a single brake lever. This not only makes panic braking relatively safer, it also ensures that the 2-wheeler’s stopping distance is reduced and chances of the bike skidding re reduced. Although the CBS technology is relatively safer, it is not as safe and effective as ABS when it comes to braking power and safety. The relative safety and the cheap cost of CBS makes it a god enough option for lower priced two-wheelers with less engine displacement that do not go that fast.
