New-Gen Maruti Celerio will be based on Wagon R's 'Heartect' architecture

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new-gen Celerio in the festive season of Diwali around October-November 2020 in the Indian market. The hatchback will be given a thorough makeover in terms of exterior styling and interior cabin while there will be two engine options on offer. Underpinning Wagon R's 'Heartect' architecture, the new-gen 2020 Maruti Celerio will be bigger in size than the current-gen model. It will challenge the likes of Tata Tiago, Datsun GO and Hyundai Santro in the Indian market.

Maruti Celerio was launched in India around six years back in 2014. The new-gen model will flaunt fresh styling and replace the current-gen model. It has also been learnt that the new hatchback will be bigger in length and width while the wheelbase will also get an extension over the current iteration of Celerio. The test mules of the hatch have been spotted several times on Indian roads, albeit with heavy camouflage. Though, much could not be known but one can clearly notice the increase in the dimensions. The cabin details are not revealed yet but it is confirmed that the 2020 Maruti Celerio will have a new layout with several notable features including the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Mechanically, the new-gen 2020 Celerio will come with two BS6 compliant petrol engine options: a 1.0L and a 1.2L unit. Both these engines are currently a part of Wagon R's lineup. The current-gen Maruti Celerio comes with only the 1.0L petrol engine. The transmission options for the hatchback would include a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox as standard. It would be retailed via Maruti's Arena dealership across the country. The bookings for the hatch will start around September 15 with deliveries starting in October post the launch.
