The second-generation Celerio to be based on Maruti’s Heartech modular lightweight platform

The new-gen Maruti Celerio is all set to replace the current-gen Celerio in the Indian market. The new hatchback has been undergoing rigorous testing for the last few months. We can expect the launch anytime soon. As for the price, it is likely to fall in the range of Rs 4.5 lakhs - Rs 6.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched the new Celerio will rival the likes of Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro.

Design-wise, the new Celerio will follow Maruti’s latest design language. The hatchback has been caught on the camera doing test runs on multiple occasions in the past. However, earlier this year, one of our readers had spotted the new Celerio fully camouflaged in Gurgaon. The image revealed the rear portion of the model. The hatchback might get a tapered roofline, wrap-around LED tail-lamps and a sculpted tailgate. We could also make out that it will be a bit taller in size in comparison to the current model on sale. As per the spy shots revealed earlier, the new hatchback might get an upright nose, a slim grille, swept-back headlamps, and a tweaked bumper. Other design bits that we can expect the hatch to get are new multi-spoke alloy wheels and ORVMs with integrated turn indicators.

The interior of the new-gen Celerio has also been spied some time ago. From the images, the model is likely to get an all-new dashboard design with a new centre console. The centre console will be flanked by AC vents on either side and AC controls below. However, it might share common switchgear with other cars from the Maruti line-up. We can further expect this new-gen Celerio to get more tech than its predecessor. It will further feature the latest version of Maruti’s Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

Performance-wise, the new-gen Celerio will be powered by the same BS6-compliant 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10 unit. However, we can expect the top variant to get a larger and more potent 1.2-litre K12 unit from the Wagon R. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
