Toyota, along with its performance arm Gazoo Racing, is reviving some of its most legendary sports cars. After the success of the GR Supra and GR 86, the new Toyota Celica is now under development along with the MR2, and a new Lexus supercar. These new models are part of Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda's plan to revive the "three brothers" of sports cars.

The New Toyota Celica and MR2 engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is codenamed G20E. The G20E was unveiled at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon and is projected to generate in excess of 400hp in street-legal trim and greater than 600hp for motorsport use.
The New Toyota MR2 details are said to incorporate a mid-engine layout, a hallmark of the original car. The Toyota Celica is expected to incorporate a front-engine, all-wheel-drive configuration and restore the use of the GT-Four badge, a tribute to its World Rally Championship heritage.
There are speculations that Toyota Celica might return to the World Rally Championship (WRC). FIA's new regulations in 2027 will accommodate more body types, which could bring a new generation of Celica rally cars. If achieved, this would bring Toyota Celica back to competitive racing after many decades.
Toyota is also working on a replacement for the Lexus LFA, which will compete in the GT3 racing series by 2026. The high-performance vehicle, possibly called LFR, will be driven by a turbocharged V8 engine that will deliver between 500hp and 600hp. The new Toyota Cars will have hybrid technology, as indicated by prototype sightings where the vehicle glided quietly before the combustion engine kicked in.
