Ducati working on a higher capacity Multistrada

Documents published by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), an agency that’s a part of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), have revealed that Ducati’s new Multistrada will be powered by a higher capacity motor. The current Multistrada 1200 models use a 1,198cc, Testastretta DVT L-twin motor that puts out 152hp and 128Nm of torque.

The documents reveal that the bike will be available in three variants (standard, Pikes Peak and S). The company has listed the engine capacity as 1,262cc, it’s the same motor that sits in the XDiavel. In the XDiavel’s config, it makes 152hp of peak power as well, but peak torque kick in at just 5,000rpm rather than 7,500rpm.

In the Multistrada configuration, however, this 1,262cc version will produce 165hp. The documents also reveal that the bike will be lighter by 10kg. There’s no word so far of when the Multistrada 1260 is expected to hit the streets, but since Ducati is busy getting its V4 superbike ready this year, it’s quite possible that this new Multi will debut in 2018.
