MG Motor India to introduce a petrol-powered version of the ZS EV in the country

After launching three models - Hector, Gloster, and ZS EV - in the Indian market, MG Motor is now planning to expand its portfolio. By the third quarter of this year, the company might introduce a new SUV codenamed Model K. This might be a petrol-powered version of the MG ZS SUV. It will be positioned below the Hector. Besides this, the company is also likely to ditch the ‘ZS’ nomenclature and launch the product with an all-new moniker.

The SUV has been seen doing test runs in India on multiple occasions in the past. As per the spy shots revealed earlier, Model K will be based on the facelifted version of the ZS EV. The front fascia will be redesigned with sharper headlamps, a new grille, and a bumper. Towards the rear, the upcoming MG SUV will get a set of revised tail-lamps. Moving inside the cabin, we can expect the dashboard to get subtle tweaks. There might also be a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system instead of the 8.0-inch unit as present in the ZS EV. The global-spec model also features a digital instrument cluster.

Talking about the powertrain, the Model K might get a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol mill that develops 120 bhp power and 150 Nm torque.  MG might also offer Model K with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that dishes out a maximum power of 163 bhp and a peak torque of 230 Nm. If Model K gets this engine option then it will make ZS the most powerful SUV in its class. Furthermore, the upcoming SUV will get manual as well as automatic gearbox options.
