MG Motor India has pushed back the launch of Hector Plus to a couple of months from April to June 2020 in the country. Recently, Mr. Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India, confirmed this development to AutoCar India in an Instagram live session. The three-row 7-seater SUV will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Gravitas in the Indian market. Hyundai & Kia are also working on the 7-seater version of Creta and Seltos, respectively, which will come out by the mid of 2021 in India.

Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India said, “We could have surprised everyone by launching it in April; but now April is ruled out. So we are on track to launch it in June. It has been delayed, but we said June earlier, so we are keeping some margin with us, so in June we should be launching it.” MG Hector Plus is the elongated version of the standard Hector SUV with an extra row of seats. The SUV made its first public appearance at the 2020 Auto Expo in February and it was noticed then that the company has made a few cosmetic tweaks in order to make it different from the regular Hector. It will come with newlly designed headlamps and fog lamps while the bumper has also been redesigned alongside all-new black grille and LED DRLs.

Despite having an extra row of seating, MG Hector and Hector Plus will have marginal differences in length due to the restyled bumpers. The Hector Plus SUV was showcased as a 6-seater vehicle at the Auto Expo with captain seats in the middle row but there are talk of a 7-seater version as well with bench seats in the middle row. The cabin of Hector Plus is likely to feature the updated 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MG in-car connectivity suite. In addition, panoramic sunroof will also be a standard feature. Mechanically, it is expected to get the same engine and gearbox combinations as Hector in the form of 2.0L diesel with 6-speed manual, 1.5L turbocharged petrol with 6-speed manual and auto, and 1.5L petrol with 48V mild-hybrid system and 6-speed manual transmission.
