The brand has also revealed the name of the model that they will be launching in India – the MG Hector SUV. The company has already initiated an aggressive marketing campaign for the same and is pinning a lot of hopes on the new SUV for Indian market.
There have been numerous leaks and exclusive information reports about the upcoming MG Hector SUV. In the same series, new reports have emerged about the segment leading features that the upcoming SUV will come equipped with. The latest reports state that the Chinese-owned British brand will present a large panoramic sunroof and large touchscreen infotainment screen on their first SUV in India. This is in line with the brand’s idea of launching the most feature loaded SUV in the segment.
Talking about the latest feature leaks of the MG Hector, the aforementioned panoramic sunroof will be fully-electric unit that will pop-up and slide. Sunroofs have gotten very popular in India lately and people are installing aftermarket sunroofs on their cars. Although Indian weather conditions are not ideal for a sunrt As far as the size of the sunroof is concerned, it will measure 1460 mm X 832 mm. This makes this sunroof a lot larger than the panoramic sunroof offered on Jeep Compass. Just to remind you that Tata Harrier does not feature a sunroof making the Jeep Compass the lone sunroof offering SUV in the segment as of now.
Coming to the touchscreen infotainment system, this too at 10.4 inches will be the best in segment. The infotainment system on the Hector will also serve as the air-con control. There is also a possibility that the Chinese-owned British brand will offer 360-degree camera on the Hector SUV, the infotainment system will serve as the display for the same. As far as the in-car entertainment system is concerned, upcoming MG Hector could come with a Harman Infinity audio system with 4 speakers, 4 tweeters, and one subwoofer. MG Hector is actually a rebranded version of the Chinese company SAIC Motor’s Baojun 530. SAIC is one of the biggest car manufacturers of China.
As far as the engine options for the MG Hector are concerned, the upcoming Chinese owned British brand SUV will come equipped with two engine options. The first will be a 1.5L liter turbocharged petrol and the other a 2L Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel, the latter being the same one found on Compass and Harrier. The outputs for petrol engine will be 143 Bhp-250 Nm, this puts it behind the Compass as the US maker’s SUV produces 160 Bhp-250 Nm. Whereas the diesel engine is supposed to be produce the same kind of output seen on Compass – 170 Bhp of power and 350 Nm. There has also been news on the transmission options for the 1.4L petrol engines of Hector.
MG claims that it has achieved nearly 75 percent localization for the parts of MG Hector in India, the brand is working so hard on localization in order to give stiff competition to Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass as far as prices are concerned. The new SUV from the Chinese owned brand is to be at its factory in Gujarat’s Halol, the same plant which once saw US giant GM’s cars being manufactured there.
