Mercedes Benz decides to launch relatively affordable version of G-Class 350d in India.

Mercedes Benz G-Class is one of the most expensive off-roading vehicles in the country and the German company has now decided to launch another variant of the series in the country. The company will launch a relatively affordable version of the G-Class here. The new variant will be the G 350d and will become the entry level model of the off-roading SUV line-up when launched in the country. As far as the launch date is concerned, there are reports on the internet claiming that the company will launch the 350d model around November this year, however, none of the Mercedes dealerships have started the bookings for the entry level model yet. Talking about the price of the upcoming entry level G 350d, the expected price for the model could be around 1.48 crores upon launch.

To let you know, the company already offers the G-Class 350d in international markets. The international version of G 350d comes equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine rated to deliver 286PS of power and 600 Nm between 1,200 RPM and 3,200 RPM. The G 350d can go from naught to a ton in just 7.4 seconds, while the top speed has been electronically limited to 199 kmph. There is a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox that comes mated with the engine of the international version this SUV. The company claims that the gearbox comes with a new transfer case that is flange-mounted directly to the 9G-Tronic gearbox and is designed to send 40 per cent of the drive torque to the front axle and 60 per cent to the rear axle.

The suspension duties on the G 350d are handled by a double wishbone setup at the front. Talking of the interiors on offer in the international variants of the G 350d, they are very luxuries with a lot of leather and woodwork inside the cabin of the very capable off-roading SUV. However, the interiors here won’t be as top notch as the G63 AMG because of the obvious price and positioning difference between the two SUVs. To let you know the G63 AMG is a beast of a machine that comes equipped with a 4L V8 turbo petrol engine rated to deliver 577 Bhp and 760 Nm. The gearbox and drivetrain options remain the same as described above. However, the G 350d will be aimed at locking horns with the Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport and Vogue models that currently dominate the luxury SUV scene in India.
