Maruti Wagon R is the best-selling car of 2021 in the Indian market. The company sold more than 1.83 Lakh units of the hatchback last year in the country. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki was the most preferred automobile brand in India as 8 of its vehicles featured in the list of top 10 best-selling passenger vehicles. Besides the Wagon R, various other company cars made it to the list in the form of Swift, Baleno, Alto 800, Dzire, Vitara Brezza, Eeco and Ertiga. It was the first time that the Ertiga MPV joined the top 10 best-selling passenger vehicles group.

Expressing gratitude towards customers, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “We are deeply honored and grateful to our customers for choosing Maruti Suzuki as their most preferred passenger vehicle. We will continue to make efforts to offer class-leading products and services to meet today’s customer requirements.” The eight Maruti Suzuki models contributed to over 83 percent of the total volumes of top 10 selling models and almost 38 percent of the total passenger vehicle sales volumes in 2021. Interestingly, hatchbacks bagged the top four slots in the list with the Wagon R as the best-seller followed by Swift, Baleno and Alto 800.


Apart from the petrol-powered model, Maruti Wagon R CNG is the highest selling CNG vehicle in India. The company has sold more than 25 Lakh units of the hatchback in the country over the past 20 years. In fact, it has been a repeat buy for over 24 percent of its customers. Based on the 5th generation HEARTECT platform, the Maruti Wagon R is available in both 1.0L and 1.2L petrol engines with both manual and Auto Gear Shift (AMT) gearbox options. The CNG version delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency of 33.54 km/kg. The standard safety features on-board include Driver airbag, ABS (antilock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors.
